To encourage our guests to explore the breathtaking sights that surround our lodge we
provide an on staff Adventure Specialist. Our Adventure Specialist has the
inside scoop on the best hikes, wildlife viewing, sights, cultural experiences
and activities you can partake in while you join us here at Cathedral Mountain
Lodge. From the moment you reserve your
room, our Adventure Specialist will be willing to help you plan a trip that hits
all the right notes. For guests wishing to explore the park on foot, there are literally hundreds of fabulous
trails each of which is an exceptional outdoor
experience. Having hiked all of these we
can point you in the right direction ensuring you do not miss out on the hike of
a lifetime.
For those of you wishing to expand your horizon beyond the local trails, you may view the park using some rather distinctive exploration vehicles. While staying with us you can choose from snow coaches, gondolas, canoes, river rafts, and even crampons. All these activities perfectly marry the experience and the unique World Heritage Site you are visiting. Our Adventure Specialists will be happy to make a reservation for you and prepare an itinerary that will exceed your expectations.

guided hiking
Half day hikes offered daily (approximately 3 – 4 hours long), departing from Moraine Lake Lodge, with routes alternating between:
Larch Valley: Alpine valley with spectacular mountain lakes and streams nestled in a forest of magnificent larch trees.
Consolation Valley: Consolation Lake is surrounded by glaciers, spectacular Rocky Mountains and avalanche scree slopes. On the trail you will see 10 – 20 varieties of alpine mushrooms, spectacular colors of Indian Paint Brush (flower), and many varieties of alpine flowers.
Both hikes are considered moderate.

canoeing on moraine lake
All Cathedral Mountain Lodge guests receive complimentary canoeing. Participate in an activity that has been ongoing in Banff National Park for over 100 years!! Canoe dock is open daily from 10:00AM to 5:00PM.
Plan 60 – 90 minutes for one trip, activity is considerate moderate.
Our Adventure Specialist can make the necessary arrangements for you.

icefield helicopter tours
What better way to explore the Canadian Rockies than by helicopter? View pristine alpine meadows, streams and glaciers. Guests will be overwhelmed by the sheer majesty of the surroundings. Truly spectacular- a can’t miss!!
Tours leave the base every half hour between 7:00am and 10:30pm. Allow 2 hours travel from Cathedral Mountain Lodge.

RIVER RAFTING
An exciting activity that is sure to bring a smile to your face and a memory not to be forgotten. The rafts are launched just outside Yoho National Park into the Kicking Horse River, 45 minutes from Cathedral Mountain Lodge.

snow coach tours
The unique snow coaches take you onto the Columbia Glacier, which covers 325 square kilometers, one of the largest accumulations of snow and ice south of the Arctic Circle.

lake louise gondola
Located approximately 20 minutes from Cathedral Mountain Lodge, the gondola takes visitors to an elevation of 6850 feet. View grizzlies during the June 1-20 period as they feed on wild flowers, and in August, when they feed on wild berries.
